β Remote Desktop Access β User Checklist for Local Files & Printers
π₯οΈ Step 1: Launch Remote Desktop
- Press
Win + R, typemstsc, and press Enter - In the Remote Desktop Connection window, click “Show Options”
π Step 2: Enable Local Resource Access
π File Access (Drives)
- Go to the Local Resources tab
- Click the “More…” button
- β
Check the drives you want to access (e.g. C:, D:, USB devices)
π¨οΈ Printer Access
- Still on the Local Resources tab
- β
Make sure “Printers” is checked
π Clipboard Access (optional)
- β
Leave “Clipboard” checked to enable copy/paste of text/files
π Step 3: Connect to the Server
- Return to the General tab
- Enter your server IP or hostname
- Click Connect
- Enter your credentials when prompted
β Step 4: Verify Access Inside the Server Session
π Files
- Open File Explorer in the remote desktop
- Look under This PC or Network
- You should see your local drives listed as:
\\tsclient\C\\tsclient\D- etc.
You can now open and save Sage files directly from/to your local PC.
π¨οΈ Printers
- Open the Print dialog in any application (e.g. Sage 50)
- Look for your local printer name (often labeled with “redirected”)
β οΈ If It Doesn’t Work
Ask your admin to verify:
- Group Policy settings allow:
- Drive redirection
- Printer redirection
- Clipboard access
- Remote Desktop Services role is correctly configured on the server
π‘ Tips
- You can also copy/paste files between your desktop and the remote session
- Be cautious with saving large files directly to redirected drives (can be slow)
