βœ… Remote Desktop Access – User Checklist for Local Files & Printers

πŸ–₯️ Step 1: Launch Remote Desktop

  1. Press Win + R, type mstsc, and press Enter
  2. In the Remote Desktop Connection window, click “Show Options”

πŸ“ Step 2: Enable Local Resource Access

πŸ“‚ File Access (Drives)

  • Go to the Local Resources tab
  • Click the “More…” button
  • βœ… Check the drives you want to access (e.g. C:, D:, USB devices)

πŸ–¨οΈ Printer Access

  • Still on the Local Resources tab
  • βœ… Make sure “Printers” is checked

πŸ“‹ Clipboard Access (optional)

  • βœ… Leave “Clipboard” checked to enable copy/paste of text/files

πŸ” Step 3: Connect to the Server

  • Return to the General tab
  • Enter your server IP or hostname
  • Click Connect
  • Enter your credentials when prompted

βœ… Step 4: Verify Access Inside the Server Session

πŸ“‚ Files

  • Open File Explorer in the remote desktop
  • Look under This PC or Network
  • You should see your local drives listed as:
  • \\tsclient\C
  • \\tsclient\D
  • etc.

You can now open and save Sage files directly from/to your local PC.

πŸ–¨οΈ Printers

  • Open the Print dialog in any application (e.g. Sage 50)
  • Look for your local printer name (often labeled with “redirected”)

⚠️ If It Doesn’t Work

Ask your admin to verify:

  • Group Policy settings allow:
  • Drive redirection
  • Printer redirection
  • Clipboard access
  • Remote Desktop Services role is correctly configured on the server

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • You can also copy/paste files between your desktop and the remote session
  • Be cautious with saving large files directly to redirected drives (can be slow)
